šŸ‰ THE SUMMER FRUIT YOU NEED RIGHT NOW! ā˜€ļøšŸ’¦ AND HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT ONE

With temperatures climbing and even warmer nights ahead, many of us don’t feel like eating heavy meals.

That’s when watermelon comes into its own.

It’s refreshing, naturally sweet, packed with water and one of the best foods you can eat to help stay hydrated during the summer heat.

Ā My favourite summer salad

This is honestly one of the easiest and most delicious dishes I make.

Simply dice:

Ā Chilled watermelon

Ā Feta or queso fresco

Ā Fresh mint

Then finish with:

Ā A drizzle of extra virgin olive oil

Ā A pinch of Maldon sea salt (or flaky sea salt) and oregano

Ā Fresh lemon juice squeezed over the top.

That’s it!

Trust me… you’ll thank me later.

It’s perfect for lunch, as a side dish with a barbecue, or as a light dinner on those hot evenings when you don’t have much appetite.

Ā A little trick for choosing a sweeter watermelon

I’ve attached a useful guide.

Look at the ā€œbelly buttonā€ on the bottom of the watermelon.

Ā Smaller centre = usually sweeter, juicier and thinner skin.

Ā Larger centre = often thicker skin and less flavour.

It’s not a guarantee every time, but it’s a handy tip that many fruit sellers use.

The Knock Test:

Give the watermelon a firm thump or knock using your knuckles. A ripe watermelon will produce a deep, hollow, resonant sound (like a drum). If the sound is dull, flat, or thud-like, the melon is likely underripe.

Ā Weight: Pick the melon up; it should feel heavy for its size, which means it is packed with sweet, flavorful juice
