🌺 RESTAURANT REVIEW: La Placita Restaurante & Tapas

Friday is market day in Puerto de Mogán, so finding somewhere for lunch can sometimes be a challenge. This week we decided to try La Placita Restaurante & Tapas, located on the square by the pharmacy next to El Jamonal.

It was our first visit. Despite living in Puerto de Mogán for many years, this was actually our first time eating here.

The restaurant was completely full when we arrived, which is usually a good sign. They don’t take reservations for Friday lunch ( very understandable) , but the staff quickly found us a table for five after a short wait of around five minutes.

🌴 The Setting

La Placita sits right on the square that many locals simply call “La Placita” -

a meeting place that has long been part of everyday life in Puerto de Mogán.

The atmosphere is busy and lively, especially on market day. Seating is available both inside and outside under the trees overlooking the square, making it a great place for people-watching while enjoying lunch.

🍴 What We Ordered

We decided to share a selection of tapas alongside a main course.

From the tapas menu (€6 each) we tried:

• Papas Arrugadas with mojo

• Chicken wings

• Mussels in marinara sauce

• Seafood salpicón

• Croquets

We also ordered:

• Chicken Breast Escalope (€13.95)

• Bread with aioli

• Beer, wine and water

💡 One useful tip:

Many of the tapas are very similar to dishes found on the starter menu, but at a much lower price. If you’re looking for a light lunch or starter, the tapas menu offers considerably better value.

The tapas menu is easy to miss as it appears on the last pages of the menu, so it’s worth having a look before ordering.

⭐ What Stood Out

The mussels in marinara sauce were probably the best dish we tried. Nicely presented and full of flavour.

The bread arrived warm and fresh, and the aioli was very enjoyable.

The papas arrugadas were exactly what you would expect - simple, traditional and difficult to get wrong.

The seafood salpicón was pleasant enough, but nothing particularly memorable.

The chicken wings were slightly dry, and the Chicken Escalope received similar comments. The accompanying salad looked as though it may have been prepared some time earlier and lacked the freshness I would normally expect.

The croquettes were perfectly acceptable, but very average and not particularly memorable. They lacked the crispy exterior and creamy filling that make a great croquette stand out, and personally, they are not something I would order again.

👨‍🍳 Service

The gentleman who greeted us and organised our table did an excellent job and handled the busy lunch service professionally.

The waitress appeared under pressure throughout most of the meal, which is understandable on a packed Friday market day. Service improved later in the visit and everything was handled correctly.

💰 Price Level & Value

Tapas: €6 each

Chicken Breast Escalope: €13.95

Beer (pint): approximately €3.95

Wine: approximately €4.95 per glass

The prices are comparable to many restaurants in the resort, but personally I felt the food quality did not quite justify the price level.

📝 My Verdict

La Placita clearly has a loyal following and enjoys an excellent location on one of Puerto de Mogán’s best-known squares. The atmosphere was friendly, busy and welcoming throughout our visit.

However, based on this particular lunch, I felt the food was generally average rather than memorable. Nothing was bad, but very little stood out either.

With so many strong dining options available in Puerto de Mogán, there are several places I would personally choose before returning here for lunch.

🔄 Would I Return?

Possibly for a drink, a tapa and to enjoy the atmosphere of the square.

I can see why it has loyal customers, but based on this visit it wasn’t quite the right fit for me
