Friday Market brings another busy day to Puerto de Mogán
Friday is always one of the busiest days of the week in Puerto de Mogán as the famous street market returns to the village.
From around 9:00 am until approximately 2:00 pm, Avenida Los Marrero, the area around Cordial Mogán Playa over the blue bridge and out to the pier to the very end where the light house is located become filled with hundreds of market stalls selling clothing, jewellery, leather goods, handbags, souvenirs, local products and holiday gifts.
Visitors arrive throughout the morning by coach, ferry, hire car and public bus, creating a lively atmosphere very different from the village’s normally peaceful character.
For many visitors the market is one of the highlights of their holiday. Others prefer the quieter days when Puerto de Mogán returns to its slower pace. Neither view is right or wrong, it simply depends on what you’re looking for.
If you enjoy browsing colourful stalls, watching people from a café terrace or picking up a few holiday bargains, today is an excellent day to visit.
If you prefer quieter streets and empty cafés, you may wish to head to the beach early or take a ferry to Puerto Rico before the largest crowds arrive.
Market Tips
• Opening hours: 09:00–14:00
• Arriving before 10:00 usually provides the most relaxed experience.
• Some stalls accept cards, but many still prefer cash.
• If prices are not displayed, polite bargaining is perfectly normal. Depending on the item, reductions of around 20–40% are sometimes possible, always with a friendly smile.

Live Music and Dance Begins Today
Puerto de Mogán’s summer celebrations : Fiesta del Carmen continue this weekend with three days of entertainment for both residents and visitors.
Expect music, comedy, dancing, children’s activities and late-night celebrations across several locations in the village.

Weather Today
Another beautiful summer day is expected
Early morning temperatures begin around
24–25°C before climbing steadily through the morning.
By lunchtime temperatures are expected to reach around 30°C, peaking close to 31°C during the afternoon before gradually falling after sunset.
Despite stronger north-easterly winds affecting parts of Gran Canaria and Gran Canaria Airport, Puerto de Mogán remains well protected by the surrounding mountains. Winds in the village are expected to stay relatively light at around 10–16 km/h, making conditions feel comfortable despite the heat.
Humidity will remain between approximately 78% and 83% during the morning before gradually decreasing later in the day.
Air quality remains good and stable.
The UV Index will reach 10, classified as Very High. If you are spending time outdoors, particularly between midday and 3:00 pm, seek shade whenever possible, wear sunglasses and use sunscreen of at least SPF 30.

Swimming conditions are expected to remain very good throughout the day.
Playa Chica
For visitors looking for a crystal clear water experience, Playa Chica remains one of Puerto de Mogán’s “hidden” gems.
Please remember that there is no lifeguard, access is via steps and the small cove can occasionally experience slightly stronger swell than the main beach.
Always check the beach flags before entering the water. It has its own flag
Red flag means swimming is prohibited.
Black flag means the beach is closed.
✈️ Airport & Travel Update
Gran Canaria Airport is operating normally this morning, with no major delays or weather-related disruption reported.
Conditions are generally good for flying, although moderate north-easterly winds continue to affect the airport area. These are common at this time of year and are well within normal operating limits.
If you’re travelling today, remember that weekends can be particularly busy as many visitors arrive for weekend holidays or return home after a week’s stay.
Departure Tips
• Passport control for non-Schengen destinations is located in Area D.
• Queues can build quickly during the late morning and early afternoon, so avoid leaving passport control until the last minute after passing through security.
• Families travelling with children under 12 should use the manual passport control lanes, which are generally quicker and more suitable for young families.
As always, check your airline’s app or departure board before leaving for the airport in case of any last-minute gate or schedule changes.

🚍 Getting to the Friday Market
If you’re visiting the market today, there are several easy ways to reach Puerto de Mogán.
By Bus
Bus 91
Connects Arguineguín, Anfi, Puerto Rico, Amadores and Puerto de Mogán throughout the day.
Bus 32
Operates from Maspalomas and Playa del Inglés on weekdays. ( nr 33 Saturday and Sunday)
If arriving by bus, get off at Lomo Quiebre, the second stop after passing through the tunnels. From there it’s only a short walk across to Mogán Plaza and the market, which begins beside Hotel Cordial Mogán Playa on Avenida Los Marrero.
Parking
If driving, continue through the tunnel and take the second roundabout, turning left before taking the first right into the large gravel parking area.
Parking here is free of charge.

🌺 Staying Safe While You Enjoy the Market
Puerto de Mogán remains one of the safest holiday destinations on Gran Canaria, and most visitors enjoy their stay without experiencing any problems at all.
Like anywhere that attracts large crowds, however, it’s worth being a little more aware on Fridays.
One scam occasionally seen in busy tourist destinations around the world is the shell game, sometimes called the pea game.
A small object is hidden beneath one of three cups or shells, which are then moved rapidly across a table. At first it appears that people are winning money easily.
In reality, these games almost always involve several accomplices pretending to be ordinary tourists. Their role is to create confidence and encourage others to join in. Once a genuine visitor places a bet, the outcome is almost always the same—the organiser is highly skilled at manipulating the cups, and the player loses.
The simplest advice is also the best:
Never take part in street gambling games.
Watching for a few moments may be entertaining, but participating is almost certain to cost you money.
Apart from that, basic travel awareness is usually all that’s required.
Keep handbags closed, don’t leave valuables unattended on the beach, use your accommodation safe for passports and spare cash, and remain slightly more aware in crowded areas such as the market, the bus stop and the blue bridges crossing the marina.
A little common sense goes a long way towards ensuring a relaxed and enjoyable holiday.

🚓 Local News
Police arrest man in Playa de Mogán following suspected drug offences
Mogán Local Police have arrested a man following a suspected drug-related incident in Playa de Mogán.
The arrest took place on 17 July in Plaza Doctor Pedro Betancor, where officers on routine patrol noticed behaviour they considered suspicious.
During a search, police reportedly recovered nine packages of hashish weighing a total of 32.04 grams together with seven individual packages of cocaine weighing 2.47 grams.
As the quantities exceeded the legal limits for personal possession, the man was arrested on suspicion of offences against public health.
He was later transferred to police custody before being handed over to the Guardia Civil for judicial proceedings.
For visitors, this incident should not cause concern. Puerto de Mogán continues to enjoy a reputation as one of the safest and most relaxed tourist destinations on the island.

📸 Photography and Gastronomy Experience Announced
The Municipality of Mogán has announced an unusual event celebrating World Photography Day.
On 12 August, photographers—whether professional, amateur or simply enthusiastic mobile phone user; will have the opportunity to photograph specially prepared dishes created by students from the Municipal Restaurant Training Programme before enjoying the food themselves.
Registration opens 27 July and closes 7 August.
Participants will also be entered into a prize draw to win a professional photography session.
Anyone interested can register through Mogán Town Hall.

🔥 Island News
Forest fire near Telde brought under control
The forest fire that broke out yesterday afternoon between Telde and Valsequillo has now been stabilised following an extensive operation involving helicopters, ground crews, firefighters and emergency services.
Around 8 to 10 hectares of vegetation were affected before crews successfully slowed the spread of the flames.
Firefighters remained on site overnight dealing with remaining hot spots, and work is expected to continue today to ensure the fire is fully extinguished.
Early indications suggest the fire may have started beneath an electricity line, although investigators have not ruled out other possible causes.
Fortunately, no villages required evacuation, despite initial concerns that the fire could spread towards the island’s central mountains.

If you’re staying in self-catering accommodation and would like to enjoy truly fresh local seafood, visit the Cofradía de Pescadores de Mogán on the harbour.
Buying directly from the fishermen is an excellent way to support the local fishing community while enjoying some of the freshest fish available on the island.

💡 Local Tip of the Day
If today’s market crowds aren’t quite your thing, why not enjoy a different side of Gran Canaria?
Take the ferry from Puerto de Mogán* to Puerto Rico and then enjoy the spectacular coastal walk to Playa de Amadores.
The route offers beautiful ocean views, several cafés and one of the island’s most family-friendly beaches.
Sunbeds cost approximately €5, there are inflatable water attractions during the summer, and if you’re looking for a little extra comfort, the Amadores Beach Club is a wonderful place to spend a relaxing afternoon.
When you’re ready to return, simply catch Bus 91 back to Puerto de Mogán.
