Traditional Gran Canaria Tour - Discover the Authentic North of the Island

If you would like to experience a completely different side of Gran Canaria from the sunny resorts in the south, this full-day cultural tour to the north of the island is one I genuinely recommend.

The pickup point from Puerto de Mogán is at the bus station, platform 6 or 7, before heading north through the mountains and green valleys towards some of the island’s most traditional towns with this traditional Gran Canaria Tour..

If you haven’t seen more of the island than the south coast, you really should do a tour like this at least once during your stay. You will discover a completely different side of Gran Canaria - green mountains, pine trees, traditional villages, dramatic scenery, historic churches, and a much more local and authentic atmosphere.

These are actually some of my favourite places on the island - especially Firgas and Teror.

The first stop is Arucas, famous for its impressive Church of St. John the Baptist, built from dark volcanic stone. The church almost looks like a cathedral rising up from the white houses surrounding it, and it’s honestly one of the most beautiful sights in Gran Canaria. The old town is full of traditional streets, local cafés, and beautiful architecture.

Depending on availability and the day of the week, the tour may also include a visit to the famous Arehucas Rum Distillery, where you can learn about the rum-making process and enjoy a tasting.

The tour then continues to Firgas, often called the “Village of Water.” This is one of the prettiest villages on the island, known for its fountains, waterfalls, ceramic artwork, and peaceful atmosphere. It feels very traditional and very Canarian.

The final stop is Teror, one of the most historic and charming towns in Gran Canaria. Here you can stroll through cobbled streets lined with traditional wooden balconies, browse local shops, and taste famous local products such as chorizo de Teror and other Canarian specialities.

The excursion lasts around 8 hours and includes transport by bus, local guide, travel insurance, and admission plus tasting at the Arehucas Distillery.

Right now, because it is low season, this tour is also on offer - reduced from around €65 to approximately €42 per person, which is very good value for a full-day excursion.

The tour usually runs on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. So if you would like a quieter day away from the busy market atmosphere in Puerto de Mogán on Fridays, this is honestly a wonderful alternative.
