āš ļø Weather Warning

AEMET has issued Yellow Warnings for parts of Gran Canaria today.

Warnings include:

• High temperatures

• Strong winds

• Rough seas

The strongest conditions are expected across exposed eastern, southern and higher parts of the island.

What does that mean for Puerto de MogƔn?

Fortunately, not as much as many people think.

Puerto de MogƔn sits in a naturally sheltered valley on the south-west coast. The surrounding mountains protect the village from much of the north-easterly trade winds that affect places such as Maspalomas, Playa del InglƩs, Arinaga and Gran Canaria Airport.

Although it may become breezier later today, conditions here are expected to remain considerably calmer than elsewhere.

That sheltered microclimate is one of the reasons Puerto de MogƔn has earned to have the best climate in Europe

šŸ… Local Tip

The fresh deli counters inside SuperDino and SPAR often offer much better ham, cheese and cold cuts than the pre-packed shelves and it can be to a more valuable price.

Also worth remembering:

Spanish supermarkets do not sell medicines such as paracetamol or ibuprofen.

You’ll need the local pharmacy for those. There is just one pharmacy in Puerto de Mogan. By the square after the blue bridge from the beach.

The others are Parafarmacia

What’s the difference between a pharmacy and a parafarmacia?

šŸ’Š Pharmacy (Farmacia)

  • Licensed to sell medicines.

  • Pharmacists are available to give medical advice.

  • Sells prescription medicines and non-prescription medicines.

šŸ›ļø Parafarmacia

  • Does not sell medicines.

  • Focuses on health, beauty and wellbeing products.

  • Often has a wider range of skincare and cosmetic brands than a pharmacy.

For your visitors in Puerto de MogƔn, the most useful thing to remember is:

If you need medicines such as paracetamol, ibuprofen, antihistamines or antibiotics, you must go to a pharmacy (Farmacia). A parafarmacia cannot sell these medicines.

Welcome to Gran Canaria! 😊 As I mainly cover Puerto de MogĆ”n, I can’t really recommend places to eat in Puerto Rico.

If you’re looking for a market, the nearest on a Tuesday is ArguineguĆn Market, just a few stops away on Global bus 91 from Puerto Rico. If you’re here on a Friday, I’d definitely recommend visiting the Puerto de MogĆ”n Market. It’s about the same travelling distance from Puerto Rico.

I hope you have a wonderful first visit to Gran Canaria and enjoy your holiday! šŸŒ“ā˜€ļøšŸŒŗ
