✈️ While sitting here waiting for a flight arriving from Norway, I started thinking about Gran Canaria Airport and realised there are probably a few things many visitors don’t know about it.

✈️ The airport code is LPA, which comes from Las Palmas.

✈️ It is the busiest airport in the Canary Islands and handled around 15.8 million passengers in 2025.

✈️ More than half of all passengers travel for holidays, making tourism the airport’s biggest business.

✈️ The airport operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

✈️ Thanks to Gran Canaria’s stable climate, weather-related airport closures are extremely rare compared with many airports in northern Europe.

✈️ Gran Canaria Airport is one of Europe’s most important gateways to West Africa, with links to destinations such as Morocco, Mauritania, Senegal and Cape Verde.
