Many people walk past this hotel every day without realising that it is actually the oldest hotel in Puerto de Mogán.

Today known as Hotel LIVVO Puerto de Mogán, it originally opened as Hotel Club de Mar in the early 1980s, long before Puerto de Mogán became the postcard-perfect resort we know today.

In fact, for many years it was the only hotel in Puerto de Mogán. Until Hotel Cordial Mogán Playa opened in 2004, this was the hotel that defined staying in Mogán.

At that time there was no marina as we know it now, no tunnel through the mountain, and very little tourism compared to today. The hotel was one of the very first buildings constructed directly on land reclaimed from the sea during the transformation of the old fishing village.

The whole marina area and the famous “Little Venice” style of Puerto de Mogán was designed by the architect and artist Rafael Neville, Count of Berlanga, who wanted the resort to remain low-rise, whitewashed and in harmony with the original village rather than becoming another high-rise tourist destination.

The hotel itself has only 56 rooms, which is one of the reasons many guests love it. Compared to larger resorts, it feels much quieter, calmer and more personal.

Its location is probably one of the most unique in Gran Canaria. On one side you have the beach. On the other side the marina. And underneath the hotel itself - the Atlantic Ocean.

One of the hotel’s most famous features is the saltwater pool area with direct access stairs into the sea. There are very few hotels in Gran Canaria where you can swim in the pool and then walk straight down into the Atlantic.

Around the outer edge of the pool area you will find the famous Balinese beds facing directly towards the ocean. These have become extremely popular in recent years and can sometimes also be booked by non-residents depending on hotel occupancy. Prices are now reportedly around €100 for the day packages during some periods.

The rooftop solarium and gives panoramic views over Puerto de Mogán, the marina, the beach and the cliffs surrounding the bay. During parts of the high season there is sometimes also a rooftop bar area open for hotel residents.

The hotel also has a small wellness and spa area which many visitors do not realise exists. Non-residents can sometimes access the facilities through treatments or day access depending on availability.

Most rooms have either marina, sea or pool views, and many returning guests specifically request the frontal sea-view rooms.

One thing some visitors mention as a slight downside is that the hotel often operates mainly on a half-board basis with breakfast and dinner included.

For some guests that is perfect and convenient, but personally I sometimes think it is a little bit of a shame in a place like Puerto de Mogán, where you have so many lovely local restaurants just outside the door

The atmosphere here is very different from the larger family resorts. It tends to attract couples, repeat visitors and mature travellers who want to stay right in the heart of Puerto de Mogán with everything within walking distance.

And honestly… location wise, it is very hard to beat
