🌺 RESTAURANT PRESENTATION: CAPTAIN HOOK, PUERTO DE MOGƁN šŸ“ā€ā˜ ļøšŸ½ļø

Never judge a restaurant by its name! And yes, I have to admit, I did exactly that! šŸ˜„

I’ve walked past Captain Hook countless times. It’s in a lovely location, right beside the famous Green Bandstand in Puerto de MogĆ”n, opposite Billy’s.

But somehow, the name Captain Hook made me think of pirates, boats and something perhaps more appealing to children than to someone looking for a lovely restaurant experience.

Well, I couldn’t have been more wrong!

And after a wonderful Friday lunch with friends, I’m very happy to introduce you to another restaurant that genuinely surprised me.

🌿 FIRST IMPRESSIONS

The location is excellent, particularly if you enjoy sitting somewhere lively and watching the world go by.

The restaurant has a lovely, welcoming atmosphere, with green wooden details, hanging plants, comfortable seating and a rather charming nautical theme.

We were there on a Friday, market day, when Puerto de MogƔn is at its busiest.

What impressed me was how relaxed everything felt. Despite the crowds, the staff were attentive, friendly and professional. Nobody made us feel rushed, and we could enjoy our lunch at our own pace.

Something else worth mentioning: Captain Hook accepts reservations on Fridays, which is particularly helpful because some restaurants don’t take bookings on market day.

šŸ½ļø SO, WHAT DID WE EAT?

We were a group of friends, which gave us a lovely opportunity to try several different dishes.

And I have to say, the food was very good across the table!

šŸ„— Classic Caesar Salad (€15.50)

Crispy chicken breast, lettuce, crunchy croutons, Parmesan cheese and Caesar dressing.

Beautifully presented, generous and thoroughly enjoyed.

šŸ Pasta ā€œSabor del Marā€ (€22.80)

A lovely seafood pasta with mixed seafood, salmon sauce, lemon, garlic and parsley.

It looked absolutely delicious, with plenty of seafood, and the verdict from our table was equally enthusiastic.

🄘 Assorted Croquettes (€9.50)

Six croquettes with spinach, fish and ham varieties.

These were one of my choices, and I loved them! Golden and crispy on the outside, just what I was hoping for.

šŸ§€ Fried Provolone with Blueberry Jam (€12.00)

Oh my goodness!

This was my other choice, and what a lovely surprise.

Hot, melted Provolone cheese, served in a rustic dish with breadsticks and blueberry jam.

The combination of savoury melted cheese and sweet blueberry jam was absolutely beautiful. This is certainly something I would happily order again!

šŸ” Black Angus Burger (€17.80)

Now, this was quite a sight!

A substantial Black Angus burger with crispy bacon, caramelised onion, pickles, cheddar cheese, barbecue sauce and lettuce, served with lovely golden potato wedges.

Beautifully presented on a wooden board, with a generous seeded bun.

🐟 Sea Bream / Sea Bass (€23.50)

Served with traditional Canarian potatoes (papas arrugadas) and vegetables.

The fish was beautifully presented, and my friend absolutely loved it.

We didn’t order desserts this time. We had enjoyed more than enough food already!

🌺 MORE THAN JUST THE FOOD

Something I always appreciate when visiting a restaurant is good service.

You can have the most beautiful location and a wonderful menu, but the way you’re treated makes such a difference.

And at Captain Hook, the service was outstanding.

Friendly, attentive and professional, without being intrusive. We were able to sit, talk, laugh and enjoy our lunch, even on one of the busiest days of the week.

That means a lot to me.

šŸ“– WHAT ELSE IS ON THE MENU?

The menu is surprisingly varied, with plenty of choices beyond the dishes we tried.

You’ll find starters such as bruschetta, mussels, grilled baby squid and seafood salad, alongside pizzas, pasta, salads, meat dishes and fish.

A few examples:

• Margherita pizza: €11.80

• Seafood soup: €15.50

• Black Angus burger: €17.80

• Carbonara: €19.50

• Grilled salmon with Canarian potatoes: €22.50

• Seafood paella: €22.50 per person (minimum two people)

• Special Canarian fish, Sama or Cherne: €26.50

There’s something for quite a wide range of tastes.

ā¤ļø MY FINAL THOUGHTS

This is exactly why I enjoy visiting different restaurants around Puerto de MogƔn.

Sometimes we walk past somewhere for years without going inside, simply because we have an idea in our heads about what it might be like.

Captain Hook was one of those places for me.

The food was lovely, the atmosphere relaxed, the location excellent and the service genuinely outstanding.

And yes, I’ve learnt my lesson. Perhaps I shouldn’t judge a restaurant by its name! šŸ˜„

Would I return? Absolutely!

And now I’m curious: Have you eaten at Captain Hook, or have you also walked past without ever trying it?

I’d love to hear about your experiences.
