🌴MAJOR RENOVATION PLANNED FOR PART OF PUERTO DE MOGÁN HARBOUR PROMENADE

Puertos Canarios, the Canary Islands Government’s Port Authority, has officially signed the contract for the renovation of part of the Castillete Promenade (Calle Explanada del Castillete) in Puerto de Mogán Harbour.

The project has a budget of €720,000, with work expected to begin in September and an estimated construction period of six months.

The renovation will include:

✅ New natural stone paving.

✅ More space for pedestrians.

✅ Improved traffic organisation.

✅ New street lighting.

✅ Better drainage.

✅ New benches, pergolas and litter bins.

✅ A new safety railing along the waterfront.

✅ A more accessible and attractive harbour area.

The works are expected to cover approximately 250 to 300 metres of the harbour promenade, from around the Cofradía de Pescadores (Fishermen’s Association) towards the El Faro lighthouse at the harbour entrance.

Many of you will know that there has been ongoing discussion in recent years between Puertos Canarios and MogĂĄn Town Hall regarding the future management of the harbour. However, regardless of that debate, this renovation project is now moving ahead under the responsibility of Puertos Canarios.

🌺 One question I have is about the timing.

I think these improvements are very welcome and will be a great addition to Puerto de MogĂĄn in the long term. However, I am surprised that the work is scheduled to begin in September and continue for around six months, covering much of the busiest tourist season, including autumn, winter and Christmas.

I would genuinely be interested to know why this period was chosen. Was there a particular reason why the work could not have been carried out during the quieter months of the year instead?

What do you think? Do you welcome the improvements, or would you have preferred the work to take place at a different time?
