Hello everybody
This week’s food review takes us a little outside Puerto de Mogán, to a place many visitors drive past without realising how good it actually is.
Today we visited Las Cañadas in Veneguera, a rustic Canarian grill restaurant around 15-20 minutes by car from Puerto de Mogán, depending on traffic and exactly where you are staying.
If you have a rental car and fancy trying somewhere a little more local and traditional, this is well worth the short drive. Its possible to go with the bus number 38 from Puerto de Mogan to the bus stop just outside the restaurant. Do plan the bus schedule before you go.

The Setting
Las Cañadas sits in the Veneguera valley surrounded by mountains and palms, with a very traditional rustic Canarian feel. It is simple, authentic and unpretentious - the kind of place locals and residents tend to know well.
It is also more than just a restaurant. They have a small shop selling local produce, where you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables as well as local specialities such as honey, mojo, cactus fruit jam and tuna jams.
There is also a small museum area, which adds a bit of character and makes the stop feel like more of an experience than simply going for lunch.
Popular With Cyclists
This is a very popular stop for cyclists riding through the valley, so don’t be surprised to see groups of bikes outside, especially at lunchtime.
What We Ordered
There were five of us dining and we tried quite a variety of dishes:
• Pork chops with pepper sauce
• Breaded pork escalope with mushroom sauce
• Grilled fish
• Mushroom omelette
• Avocado salad
• Semi-cured Canarian cheese
• Papas arrugadas
Menu
What Stood Out
The first thing you notice is how fresh everything tastes.
The avocados were excellent - and as many of you will know, Veneguera is known for its local produce, including avocados and mangoes grown in the valley.
The food is not modern or fancy. This is rustic, honest Canarian food, done well.
The fries were properly crispy, portions were generous, and the quality throughout was consistently good.
Price Level
One of the most impressive things here is the pricing.
For five people, including starters, mains, drinks and water, the bill came to €88.65 ( including an cheesecake with mango purée to go )
That is significantly more affordable than many restaurants in the tourist areas, especially considering the portion sizes and quality.
Good to Know
This is not fine dining or modern presentation-driven food.
If you are looking for
stylish plating, trendy fusion food
and harbour-front atmosphere this may not be for you.
But if you want:
• authentic local surroundings
• generous portions
• fair prices
• fresh ingredients
• traditional Canarian cooking
then it is an excellent choice.
My Verdict
Las Cañadas is a place I would happily return to.
It offers something different from the coastal tourist restaurants - more local, more rustic, and noticeably better value for money.
A very good option for those with a rental car who want to explore beyond the resort and enjoy a more traditional Canarian lunch.
What we paid

Would I Recommend It?
Yes - especially for lunch after a drive through the valley or if you want a break from the tourist-front restaurants.
A nice final touch was that we were offered a complimentary chupito after the meal, with a choice between honey rum or a non-alcoholic apple liqueur - a lovely gesture that added to the warm, welcoming feel of the place.
