🌺 10 Things You Must Do in Puerto de MogÔn


This list is for you who have never been to Puerto de MogƔn before - a typical first-time visitor wondering what not to miss.


1ļøāƒ£ Wander through the port and the little flower-filled alleys 🌺


Do not just stay on the beach. Take your time and stroll through the harbour, the narrow alleys behind the marina and the little streets filled with bougainvillea, colourful doors and local fishing boats.


Puerto de MogƔn is especially known for its beautiful magenta bougainvillea flowers climbing across white walls and balconies.


But be warned… this place has a strange effect on people. Many come once and suddenly find themselves returning year after year.

2ļøāƒ£ Swim in the Atlantic Ocean 🌊


Sometimes the best thing to do here is absolutely nothing.


Find a sunbed, listen to the sea and enjoy the refreshing Atlantic water. Many people consider this one of the best climates in the world.


If you are a confident swimmer, walk beyond the colourful mosaic sign at the far end of the beach Playa Chica. It is rocky but known for incredibly clear water.

3ļøāƒ£ Enjoy a long lunch by the beach and dinner in the harbour šŸ¤


Do not leave Puerto de MogƔn without eating properly.


There are around 70 restaurants here and overall the food quality is very good. Try local fresh fish, Canarian potatoes and Gambas al Ajillo - the famous garlic prawns served sizzling in olive oil.


Lunch by the beach feels completely different from dinner by the harbour at night, so try both if you can.

4ļøāƒ£ Take the ferry along the coast ā›“ļø


One of the loveliest things you can do.


Take the ferry to Puerto Rico, Anfi del Mar or ArguineguĆ­n and enjoy the coastline from the sea. If you are lucky, you may even spot dolphins on the way.

5ļøāƒ£ Climb to the viewpoint above the old town šŸ“ø


Start near the post office and walk up through the old part of Puerto de MogƔn.


If you continue all the way up the zigzag road and the 257 steps to El Mirador viewpoint, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views over the village, harbour and Atlantic Ocean.


On a clear day you can see all the way towards ArguineguĆ­n and El Pajar.

6ļøāƒ£ Watch the sunset by the lighthouse šŸŒ…


Walk to the end of the pier to El Faro - La Perla.


It is one of the nicest places for a quiet drink while watching the sun go down over the Atlantic. On especially clear evenings you may even see Mount Teide on Tenerife far out on the horizon.


If you prefer something simpler and quieter,some also gather at the little gravel sunset spot nearby.


Wear comfortable shoes.

7ļøāƒ£ Look closely at the boats and harbour life ⛵


Puerto de MogƔn is not only a holiday resort - it is still a working harbour.


Walk around the marina and look at the sailing boats from all over Europe. Some sailors are waiting for the trade winds before crossing the Atlantic towards the Caribbean. Others live permanently on their boats. The original fishing boats that were here long before the place even had a port.


And do not forget to look into the water. The fish in the harbour are everywhere.


Leftover bread rolls seem to attract half the port within minutes.

8ļøāƒ£ Stop for a drink somewhere beautiful šŸ¹


Puerto de MogƔn is made for slow afternoon and evenings.


Try:

• Barraquito - Canarian layered coffee with liqueur

• Sangria

• Tropical beer from Gran Canaria


Some lovely little bars are beside the chapel, along the riverside and around the shopping centre by Hotel Cordial MogƔn Playa.


Take your time. Nobody rushes here.

9ļøāƒ£ Visit the Friday market šŸ›ļø


Every Friday from 09:00–14:00 the whole area transforms into one of Gran Canaria’s most famous markets.


The stalls stretch from Hotel Cordial MogƔn Playa all the way down to the harbour and end of the pier.


You will find clothes, bags, jewellery, souvenirs, spices and local products.


Go early if you want it quieter.
